Simon Hughes has been reselected by a unanimous vote of local Liberal Democrats to be the party's candidate for Bermondsey & Old Southwark at the 2015 election.

Simon Hughes reselected as Lib Dem candidate for Bermondsey & Old Southwark

"I am delighted that local members have voted unanimously for Simon as the strongest voice for Bermondsey & Old Southwark, said local party chair Dr Ben Johnson.

"After 30 years of service, Simon is full of ideas, energy and enthusiasm. Everyone knows someone who has been helped by Simon and we're all sticking with him."

Simon Hughes MP said: "Since I was first elected, we've been through a lot. Fighting to have tube stations in Bermondsey and Southwark, unemployment dropping from nearly 20 per cent to 7 per cent, regeneration of our high streets, and many things that matter to local people like better housing and schools, and more training and jobs.

"But little compares to the work I have been able to do for individuals and families. Standing up for individuals in the face of sometimes incredible odds is why I wanted to be an MP at the beginning.

"It is a huge privilege to be chosen again to continue to serve every person in every community on every street and estate in every part of this proud and famous constituency."

This summer the local Labour Party selected local councillor Neil Coyle as its candidate for the 2015 contest.
