Internet auction house comes to Druid Street

Danish entrepreneur Simon Neubert-Luckner has opened a new online auction house with a real-world showroom on Druid Street.

Luckner's is the first Internet auction house in the UK and was founded by Simon Neubert-Luckner, who has based his business on the Danish Internet auction house model.

Luckner's offers a large variety of modern designs and antiques which include furniture, painting, silver and jewellery, with prices ranging from £100 to £10,000.

Luckner's process is based on continuous auctions. Once an item has been consigned, it is processed and online within 24 hours. Each lot ends its auction after 7-14 days.

Unlike sites like eBay, Luckner's is a real auction house with in-house experts, with buyers encouraged to view items in the Druid Street showroom.

"Buying online through auction forums has developed greatly over the past five years," said Simon. "The biggest auction forums are selling up to $2000 worth of goods online every second. However we felt that in the UK, the existing auction platforms have failed to respond to the specific needs of art and antiques buyers and sellers. They cannot provide the rigorous assessment that only experts like us can provide."

In Denmark, the biggest Internet auction house began five years ago and grossed £35 million in 2005.
