Pete Waterman opens new entrance to St Thomas' Hospital

A new parade of shops has been created at the main entrance to St Thomas' Hospital, featuring an M&S Simply Food store and cafe, Just Deli, WH Smith, Stock Shop and AMT Naturally.

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust claims that the refurbished entrance also boasts 'hotel-style' toilets and a light and spacious waiting area.

Pete Waterman, whose company is based at County Hall in Belvedere Road, said that he finds the new M&S store a very useful alternative to his usual shopping routine in Borough High Street.

"I really do think this is a fantastic idea," he said, as he led guests at the event in a countdown to the official opening.

Amanda Millard, the hospital's director of operations, said: "We're delighted with the new entrance at St Thomas'. The feedback we have received shows that locating these new facilities within the hospital has set us apart by providing high standard and choice not often found in hospitals."

• The reorganisation of the shops and services means that the Friends of St Thomas' gift shop can now be found at the entrance to the Lambeth Wing.

• Work is currently under way to improve the entrance to Guy's Hospital at London Bridge.
