Theatre company Tangled Feet has taken over an empty shop at the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre to develop a project all about measuring the immeasurable.

The Measurement Shop opens at Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre

The Measurement Shop opens on Monday in the the former Blackfriars Advice Centre next door to the Royal Court's Theatre Local space.

The work-in-progress theatre experience is directed by Kat Joyce and Nathan Curry who also worked together on last summer's One Mile Away project which also featured the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre.

Visitors to the store will be greeted by five actors posing as shop assistants who will lead would-be customers on a theatrical journey through the space in such a way that no two people will have the same experience.

"We've been investigating what the word measurement means, what we measure every day and how we measure it," explains Nathan Curry.

"We're making a theatrical response to measurement and we're putting it in a shop."

Tangled Feet have been carrying out interviews in and around the shopping centre to gather data for their experiment.

"People can wander into the shop and look at how many people in Elephant & Castle are in love, or look at displays about how long the world has been in existence," says Nathan.

"There will also be bits of performance happening throughout the day about how we measure friendship and success."

Co-director Kat Joyce urges locals to come and join the experiment: "It's going to be an experience where you only need to stay for as long as you are interested or go as far as your curiosity will take you."

• Visit The Measurement Shop at Unit 214, Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre from Monday 2 to Thursday 5 August between 2pm and 6pm
