Sainsbury’s ready to open in Borough High Street

Sainsbury's is preparing to open its latest branch in SE1 on Wednesday 9 July.

The Sainsbury's Local will open its doors in Borough High Street at 7am. Staff have been working on site for over two weeks preparing shelves and last minute stacking was taking place early on Tuesday morning.

Although the store is largely aimed at commuters it is expected to attract large numbers on Saturdays when visitors and residents combine shopping for fresh food in Borough Market with buying soap powders in Borough's only big-name supermarket.

The new shop is on the west side of Borough High Street near the Union Street junction. Earlier this year a Sainsbury's Local opened in Waterloo Road. A Sainsbury's Central is planned for Stamford Street in 2005.
