Thumbs up for bar food at Chop House
The Chop House bar has changed its menu and we gave it a try on Saturday night. The food was very good, the service excellent and the view - of course - spectacular! Altogether a great evening and good value, especially given the location.
Evening Standard Offer at Chop House - waste of money
If the Evening Standard "2 courses for £10" is meant to 'showcase' the restaurant - it definitely back fired ... would never dream of going again: cold soup, dryish bread, pheasant presented raw and tough as boots, venison pie mostly gristle, everything tasting of old-used oil, including carrots which had not been prepped and where still dirty. Totally unprofessional cooking leading to miserable waste of time and money. Even £10 too much for this.
Bad luck for some but not for us!
I was sorry to hear what a bad experience Koala had for a Sunday brunch. By contrast, we had yet another great meal at the Chop House bar on a busy Friday night. We booked and were seated without delay, we had three courses of excellent food for £13.50 and the service was very good. Maybe the trick is the bar set-menu, rather than during the day on the weekend?
Chopped out!
We went on a quiet Sunday morning for brunch, got thrown a menu and waited and waited and waited to be served by the two waiters on duty, did I mention is was practically empty? The guy behind the bar looked at us but continued to count the till takings. After ten or more minutes we gathered our things and suddenly we were noticed, too late! The menu is way too expensive considering the shabby service, £6 for scrambled eggs on toast!
Top value
Had a great evening doing the 3-courses-for-£12 deal in the Chop House bar last night.

Food was excellent, service was a little slow but we weren't in a rush, and we were sitting outside on a pleasant evening watching Tower Bridge go up and down.

I can't believe we've not been here before.

Forget pizza - go to the Chop House bar!
Book a place at the Chop House bar and you won't regret it. Their fixed price menu (£10 for two courses, £12 for three) is amongst the best you'll get for those prices. The service is brisk and efficient, the bread is freshly baked around the corner and the food very good indeed. We've been going there for years and have never been disappointed.
