Watch Out For Half Price Pasta Dishes Advertised Outside Res
Myself and a friend visited Guiseppe's restaurant last Tuesday lunch time around 1.30pm. Just outside the restaurant, was a large display on the wall, CLEARLY STATING that main course pasta dishes would be half price between 12-5pm, Mon-Fri. When we got into the restaurant we were informed this offer would only apply if we ordered Starters! Nowhere outside was this "condition" mentioned. How is that allowed? We hardly had time to get our feet under the table, when a waitress brought a selection of breads, olives and dip to our table. Neither of us ordered these dishes, however, we would have been charged for them. There was an assumption that we would just eat these and then would have had no alternative to have paid for them at the end. Both of us decided to order the Meat Lasagne as main courses. The Waiter, of course emphasising that we would have to pay the full cost of our pasta. Nothing wrong with the flavour of our meals, but both were piping hot around the sides and stone cold in the centre. The Waiter did take our food away without hesitation and re heated them. The female toilets of which there are two, were without question not in the best of conditions for a restaurant in a busy tourist area of London. One had a lock that did not function, the other toilet had a lid that would not stay up!It would be true to say, this was not an enjoyable, relaxing experience as a meal out in London, should have been. My overall opinion was that I felt I had to be slightly "wary" of what else may crop up, that I may not be fully aware of.
Wrong Manager.
The fiery arrogant manager/head waiter who accused us of not ordering clearly when they deliver the wrong food! He asked us if it was good but walks away when you start to be uncomplimentary! All in all the meal was pretty good so would possibly gt a take out meal from them but based on the rude service I will not visit there again for a meal!! Food was 8 out of 10 and service was 0 out of 10!!! Very disappointed, almost ruined the date!!!
Disappointed
I have been in the restaurant called “Da Giuseppe” last Friday and I wanted to spend all evening with my girlfriend. There were a lot of people waiting on the steps, very busy. We decided to leave and we asked for the bill.
The bill was unclear and we thought that something went wrong with it and we asked to speak
with the manager.
The Manager talked to us nervously and tried to convince us that the bill was right, and then he told us to leave the table because other people were waiting.
When I insisted that I did not order the site vegetables, the manager rudely said that I did order them.
Although the food was good and the atmosphere was nice with a live music, we were very disappointed about the way the manager treated us and therefore we will never come back.
Always a great night.
We haw been there few time and we always enjoin everything, specially the singer Chris Vinante that he s not just a great Sinatra crowner, is also vary funny and entertaining with some Italian Style jokes
Just be careful from the waiters that are trying to sell you the expensive Wines and Food.
Atmosphere: 10
Service: 6
Food: 9
Nice atmosphere
Been there on Thursday eve, i had a vary nice night, good food and Don the Manager was vary friendly, but the main course was the italian singer "Chris Vinante" and hes unforgettable Sinatra songs.
I should have read the reviews before going!
Went late lunchtime with my wife. Place was fairly empty, and from the foot of the stairs we walked towards the bar - only to be sharply barked at to stay where we were. Brilliant start. Having ordered food & got a drink, we were left to stew as time marched on and no food arrived. Impatient looks to get some attention were ignored. Heck, I can't explain everything, but my suggestion to the head waitress (or manageress?) that customers would be happier with some communication was slapped down. Rude, rude, rude. Actually, the food was fine, but I would never dream of going again to a place where the staff make you feel as if you're imposing.
FINGER NAIL IN FOOD!
What a disappointment! Arrived to a v packed restaurant.Stood in the walkway waiting for acknowledgement but were just ignored until we asked for a table. We were put on a table directly next to the bar with a loud speaker on the post right above us. The singer (which was way too loud) commenced and we couldnt hear ourselves speak. During our first course more diners arrived and stood at the bar. They were so close to us that one elbowed me in the head whilst I was eating! During the main course I found what looked like a fingernail in my food. We called the manager who took the object away to inspect (with no apology), but left the food in front of me...which by now made my stomach turn at the thought of what I'd found! He came back 10 mins later (with still no apology) to say he thought it was a herb root and that he would put it in his safe if I wanted to visit again to inspect the next day - no thanks. Still no apology, I asked him to remove the plate, he still didnt apologise and my fellow diners agreed it was a fingernail! He took the meal off of the bill but we also refused to pay the service charge due to the poor seating and lack of apology. Used to go here plenty but I wouldnt ever visit here again since the new name and management....greedy, trying to fit everyone in rather than concentrating on quality!
Unsatisfactory
I am afraid that despite previous satisfactory visits,I and two friends received poor treatment last evening. We were told that our 7:oo table was only available until 8:15.We were subsequently rushed through all our three courses, without apology. It was apparent that a large incoming party of 30 people were more important. We explained that we had travelled from Kent and Essex to meet and had not been told when booking that we were a problem.Although the food was fine and the waitresses were embarrassed, we shall not be revisiting.
Very disappointing
This restaurant looks like a atmospheric and authentic Italian so I was really looking forward to having a fun Friday evening here. However, I was extremely let down by the food and especially by the service.

I booked a table THREE days in advance. When we arrived, we had to wait for over 45 minutes on the stairs. The manager was very irritable when I asked nicely when I thought we would be seated and when I pointed out we had booked a table, he snapped that they were very busy.

The food was mediocre at best and the wine not much better. We were sat beside a hen party who were squealing as loud as they possibly could ever few minutes with the result that we could barely speak to each other. We finished our tasteless meal as quickly as we could and despite the cheap prices, it was a huge waste of money.

Not like before
I REGULARLY HAVE DINNER WITH MY WIFE AT GIUSEPPE'S- HOWEVER THE MANAGEMENT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE EVERYTIME WE EAT. The manager was alway sfriendly towards me and my wife, but last time - i went out for a cigarette and when i came back my wife told me that the manager was getting too friendly with my wife - rubbing his hand on her shoulders and trying to get close. the waiters were very helpful however the management is cheap - the food was good. If the manager is reading this DO NOT DO THAT AGAIN. The entertainment they have is great especially the singer. However i think that the music volume needs to be lowered.
Awful
I've never walked out of a restaurant half way through a meal in my life before experiencing this restaurant tonight.

I had the worst service ever endured - after a bottle of red wine was broken by our waitress, and a lasagne spilt over me, you would expect at least an apology from either the waitress or the manager.

Neither was forthcoming - when we requested one from the manager he said he was too busy supervising the clearing up to apologise - it is clearly too difficult to him to say one word - sorry.

Whilst the decor is rustic and authentically italian, the service is appalling, the food easily forgettable (although to be fair, the main courses might have been amazing had they not been dropped on us) and the manager's arrogance unforgiveable. The toilets are also horrible.

I will never return to this restaurant and would recommend everyone else stays well away. There are too many other good restaurants in this area to go to one that relies on microwaved food, over priced wine and an affable host who's personality turns to ice as soon as there is an issue.

Where do I start?
I had a ghastly meal at Guiseppe's last night.

- one of the mussels in the Insalata di Mare special actually fizzed on my tongue, it was so off

- No bread arrived until we had finished our the first course

- We had to remind the patrone of our wine order to be served

- One of the two waitresses who served us had no English whatsoever

- The other waitress had an unfortunate lisp which sprayed saliva on my arm

- my spag aglio/olio was piping hot on the inside, cool on the outside and on a cold plate : CSI microwave.

- My capuccino was undrinkable

- I was not offered the opportunity to check the bill before entering my PIN in the machine. (Much huffing and puffing by the manager when I insisted on this , but not before he had studiously refused to listen to what I was objecting to)

A shocking experience and, as you may guess, I will not be returning.

I see that others have had a better experience here....it is hard to imagine my visit being worse.

Honest, good value, rustic food.
We had an evening meal here before walking on to the Globe to see a play. Once you get used to the location (down some stairs into a cellar), we found the food to be good value and very tasty. You get old fashioned, well cooked, fresh ingredients with friendly attentive staff. Minestrone nice and fresh; the halibut steak was also really fresh and tasty. We were so full we couldn't manage a desert but they gave us each a complimentary limoncello liqueur which was actually genuinely tasty compared to the normal sickly sweet limoncello you often get.

Would recommend.

Italian - noisy, friendly, good cooking, good valu
..exactly as it should be. The entrance [off the alleyway] may appear unpromising, but it's worth the descent, and you'll get all of the above with friendly service. If it had a [literally] higher profile on the High Street it would probably be impossible to get a seat!
A visit to Italy
Popped in by chance yesterday afternoon and were most impressed. Food served all afternoon is always a plus with me. My friend said she'd popped her head in the door once before and it was very busy but yesterday (mid-afternoon, mid-week, mid-holidays) it was very quiet. Service was excellent and very attentive. We both ordered one of the specials of the day, lobster linguine - a whole lobster each! Really delicious. All fresh ingredients. A big test of any restaurant is that my friend is allergic to chilli, pepper, etc and very often this advice is ignored but not so yesterday. Service included olives and Italian bread served with olive oil and balsamic. The atmosphere of the place made us feel as if we were back in Italy. Most impressed and will go back again when I'm down that way.
