Post theatre teatime
Zipped in here after seeing The Changeling at the Young Vic last night. Unfortunately there was no jelly or custard on the menu (you will need to get to the Young Vic to understand this...) but the roasted cod I had was first rate. My fellow diners had similar reviews for their food. Not overpriced either. Obviously relatively empty at 10pm on a Monday night but the service was polite and efficient, the food very good and the wine excellent.
Good winter food
Me and the lady paid a return visit to Baltic yesterday (we first went about 5 years ago), and were pleased if not delighted. The starters were mixed: overly greasy potato latkas rather overwhelmed the subtle beetroot gravadlax; the rich polish black pudding was better. Main dishes were pretty good: both the rabbit and venison were perfectly cooked, both in well executed dishes. Didn't bother with dessert as the selection didn't inspire. Large selection of vodkas. Attractive but noisy setting (the usual modern minimal decor - bring back flock wallpaper, I say.)
