Tap water not available. Very poor
I had been to Alma's several times and really liked the place and the quality of the food but recently I took a friend on a Friday night when it was busier than I had seen it before and they would not give us tap water. I was quite shocked at this refusal. The woman serving us (who seemed to be in charge) said that they don't serve tap water but have bottled water for sale. We were having a full meal there so I don't see what the problem is. It just makes me not want to go there again nor recommend it to anybody
Yum
Let me preface this review with two statements:
1) I like my food. A lot. I don't want to go as far as to say i'm a "foodie" or "gastronome" - both sound naff - so let's just stick with "i like my food".
2) I'm part Italian, i eat a lot of Italian food, and visit Italy regularly. I rarely eat Italian out here in the UK, however (apart from pizza) as it mainly disappoints.

With all that in mind, i really like Alma's. The pizzas are excellent (perhaps the best in SE1), the pasta is good. Last night i went there with the other half - i had a very respectable Veal Milanese, and she had a very decent stab at a proper Saltimbocca. The portions are generous, the staff are friendly, and the prices are reasonable. What's not to like? I would genuinely most days of the week rather eat at Alma's than at almost any of the slightly smarter places round the market (e.g. Appleby's, Wright Bros, Black and Blue, Fish! etc etc) - with the possible exception of Brindisa.

Petty
We liked this restaurant, until they had the nerve to refuse to serve us tap water. We had been there a number of times with large parties and large bills. I think its petty of them, and we won't be going back!
Fantastic Italian Restaurant
We have been in London for 10 days and our visit to Almas was the best dining experience to date. Great food and personable service in a small, comfortable restaurant that made us feel more like family than tourists. If you are looking for wonderful, authentic Italian cuisine in a pleasant atmosphere and at a great price, Almas is the right place for you.
Best pizza!
This place never seems to get much of a mention but I reckon it does the best pizza in SE1! Its a nice, relaxed place to go if you just fancy some good and simple italian food.
