Imagining Southwark

The Mayor of Southwark invites you to an evening of film and discussion.

An inspiring and thought-provoking programme of Southwark films, including SODIQ – an award-winning documentary by Peckham's Adeyemi Michael (Grierson Sky Atlantic Best Student Documentary 2013).

In 2008 Sodiq Adebayo dreamt of going to university and becoming a doctor. Four years later he was on trial for the murder of Sylvester Akapalara and is today serving a 30-year prison sentence. Director Adeyemi having a unique bond with Sodiq set up a football team on their council estate in Peckham, and made a film in 2008 celebrating Sodiq's dream of studying medicine. At the time he said he didn't want to end up in jail. This new film revisits the past and is all about turning points and the choices we make.

Followed by a public conversation with filmmaker Adeyemi, Barry and Margaret Mizen, and His Honour Judge Roger Chapple, the Recorder of Southwark.

This is a free event with a voluntary collection for the Mayor of Southwark's Charity Appeal for Evelina London Children's Hospital.
