Gene Tierney stars as Ann Sutton, the neurotic wife of a psycho-analyst in this mastery film noir. David Korvo (Jose Ferrer), plays an enigmatic hypnotist whom Ann employs to help her sleep and in the process he attempts to make her take the blame for a murder he has committed. Tierney does a terrific job of portraying the problems she struggles with, her vulnerability and consequent desperation. It's left to her husband, psychiatrist Dr. Sutton, to break the hold that Korvo has on Ann and finally learn the truth behind the murder of one of his patients. This is a complex story bringing together instability with dubious psychological practices from a past era.
