Peek Frean & Co.'s Biscuit Works, A (1906) & Old Ways New Ways (1988)

The silent 1906 film by Cricks & Martin: A Visit at Peek Freans Factory will be screened as well a Sands Films documentary made in 1988 as the Peek Freans factory in Bermondsey was slowly closing down.

The film is entirely told by the employees of the plant. Based in Bermondsey from 1866 until 1989, Peek Frean & Company was the first mass producer of biscuits and invented household favourites such as the Garibaldi, and Bourbon. In more recent times the company created such loved snacks as Cheeselets and Twiglets, not to mention Queen Elizabeth II's almost two-metre tall wedding cake!

Complimentary tea, coffee & biscuits will be served before and after the films.

Membership of the Community Film Club is primarily aimed at those living and working in Southwark and Lambeth. To become a member (it's free) call 020 7401 5176, email [email protected] or join on the night.
