This lecture will focus on the American presence in the Caribbean from the First World War through the Second World War and the influence of US segregation policies on Britain. It will examine the differences between American racism and British racism, look at the bases-for-warships exchange between the US and Britain during the Second World War and discuss the long-term impact of American culture in the Caribbean. Films will include The Other American Invasion and Life and Debt.
