Healing Herbs

Behind the Scenes

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

Herbs have been the basis of medicine in this country for centuries with techniques for using them changing little since Anglo- Saxon times. See examples from the collection and try your hand at being a herbalist yourself!

You will have a rare chance to see some of the museum's wonderful collection of Herbals compiled by people such as Culpepper and Gerard from the rare books collection.

These books were essential to medical practice in the past, as a means of identifying herbs and understanding their healing properties.

This session includes the unmissable opportunity to handle some of the museum's objects and get closer than ever before to part of this wonderful collection.
