London Assembly member Valerie Shawcross has presented the first of fourteen pool bikes to businesses as part of a new Better Bankside scheme.

The Better Bankside Pool Bike Scheme is open to businesses in the business improvement district (BID) area that have signed up develop a travel plan as part of Transport for London programme to support more sustainable commuting and business travel.

The bikes are loaned to the businesses free of charge for a six month period. They are available for staff to use for work trips during the day.

The Brompton folding bicycles, painted in Better Bankside's pink livery, have been supplied by Tooley Street-based On Your Bike.

Simon Price from engineering consultants Gifford was joined by fellow members of the Better Bankside Travel Planning Group, chief executive of Better Bankside Peter Williams and Robert Chappell from On Your Bike.

Val Shawcross AM arrived at the Bankside Community Space from City Hall on her own Brompton bicycle.
