The large brick building on Druid Street is best known as the home of the Downside Fisher Youth Club. What's less well known is that the complex includes a swimming pool, gym, covered rooftop sports pitch and other facilities that are available for community use.

Three years ago the building was refurbished in partnership with the Training for Life charity who run the building as a 'wellbeing centre' during the daytime on weekdays and all day at weekends.

Now Training for Life has relaunched its activities in Southwark under the Downside Centre name.

One of the new services on offer is a 'Downside Fit' membership package which includes access to the 25-metre swimming pool and gym between 3pm and 5pm on weekdays and from 10am till 5pm on Saturdays.

Membership costs £15 a month for individuals, £25 for a couple and £40 a month for two adults and children under 16.

There are plans to add weekday early morning sessions and Sunday opening if the venture proves popular.

The Downside Centre is offering a free taster session for 'Downside Fit' during half term week (Monday 21 to Friday 25 February). Call 020 7939 7400 or email [email protected] to make a booking.
