A new face for The Old Vic (Bennetts Associates/Miller Hare)

Lambeth planning officers this week granted permission for the alterations to the listed building, including a new balcony above the colonnade at the theatre's main entrance.

The revamp has been drawn up by architects Bennetts Associates.

The scheme includes the demolition of the adjacent Waterloo Bar & Kitchen building and the construction of a new annexe to the theatre with a studio for education, emerging talent and community work.

The Old Vic hasn't published a time-frame for the project – for which it is appealing for funds from individuals, trusts and businesses – but must start work within five years under the terms of its planning permission.
