The further education college's 40 million project includes science laboratories, fashion studios, sprung dance floors, and the latest business and computing technology.

"The ceremony marked an important point in the development of our award-winning campus in the heart of South London," said principal Carole Kitching.

"Students, employers and industry came together as Balfour Beatty's guests to get a flavour of the additional training opportunities that will be available to young people and adults from summer 2016."

The new college building has been part-funded by the 14.5 million sale of part of the campus on Ufford Street.

The former college land is to be developed for 62 homes under the name SciEntia.1 – see planning application 15/AP/3024.

In a sign that previously tense relationships between the college and Southwark Council are improving, leader Cllr Peter John recently toured the Waterloo site with Ms Kitching.
