Not worth the expense
Nice room and nice table. The special had run out and the choice was not that wide. The food was generally good except for the salmon which was undercooked (the words 'served at room temperature' should be a warning!). Portion size was OK, not super generous. Staff was almost too eager: our food arrived too quickly and we were not offered coffee. For the price, I expected more. Don't think I'll go back.
Over rated
Our second time there. Service wasn't great. Waiter was a bit miserable. Food was just plonked down on table. Main courses arrived without our side dishes. For £50/ head for a 2 course lunch (no wine) I'd expect impeccable service, and it was very sub-standard.
Eye-wateringly expensive, however good
Was taken there for lunch on a weekday. I was impressed by the food and the service. And even more impressed by the £100 per head bill. Admittedly the wine was not cheap, but even so...
Ring ahead for breakfast!
Tried to go for breakfast on Saturday morning - the Roast website says it's served until 11.30am.

However on arrival at 10.40am we were informed that the chef had decided there would be no further breakfast orders taken.

Bit odd really.

Long wait, but worth it
It has been a while since i last went to Roast, so it may have changed a little since.
However, I booked an early, pre-theater table at Roast for an early dinner on a special occasion with the girlfriend. Although there was no reason I could ascertain we were made to wait an hour longer, missing the time of our booking and almost missing the show afterwards, this was the only complaint though. Pre dinner cocktails at the bar were excellent. The staff were helpful and attentive without fawning and food was perfect. It isn't cheap, but not overly expensive either and worth the money. I shall be going back again in the very near future.
Roast for a special occasion
Four of us went to Roast to celebrate three birthdays and a wedding anniversary. When I booked I told them about the celebrations and the service was particulary good. It's definitely expensive and I wouldn't go there often. But for something special, tell them and they'll make it seem worthwhile!
Roast
I have been facinated by Roast since it opened but was frightend to go because of a glut of appaling reviews. My hairdresser insisted I try breakfast there. What a delightful surprise, very friendly staff, full and buzzy atmosphere, lovely views and really good food. Not bad value either, my companion had the full English which he said was very good and very hearty, I had delightful roast toms on toast. Coffee is crazy expensive and tiny, if you can wait til you are finished go to Monmouth. Otherwise, really rather nice.
Get a bank loan
Had the Sunday lunch £20 deal at Roast. The food was ok if nothing special. The price on the other hand worked out at a whopping £100 for two. This was with adding on a third course, water and 26 quid for a wine the quality of which would set you back £7.99 or so at Waitrose. The staff smoke downstairs as you go in. Disappointing.
