The chief minister of the Indian state of Karnataka, BS Yeddyurappa, has presented the former Mayor of Lambeth with a cheque for more than £400,000 towards the installation of a statue of the Hindu saint Basaveshwara on Albert Embankment.
More than 30 Southwark residents and organisations were honoured for their contribution to the borough at the annual civic awards ceremony held on Saturday at St George's Cathedral.
Two local artists have set up a temporary studio at the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre.
