Affected businesses included the Byron Hamburgers restaurant, Southbank Tandoori and the Calder Bookshop.

The Tas restaurant was able to stay open thanks to a generator provided by UK Power Networks.

The power cut began at about 9am and at the time of writing supply was due to be restored by 8.30pm.

According to tweets from UK Power Networks, the power failure happened when a cable was cut by another utility company digging in the area.
