London SE1 website team

Work starts this week on the construction of a new segregated cycle route between Elephant & Castle and Farringdon via Blackfriars Road - but there will be more than a year of disruption.

54 weeks of roadworks while new cycle superhighway is built

The first phase of work – which starts on Monday – will be focussed on St George's Circus.

The northbound contraflow bus lane in London Road will be shut until mid-April and buses will be diverted via St George's Road and Westminster Bridge Road.

In a leaflet distributed to local residents, Transport for London has advised motorists to avoid driving in the area on weekdays 7am-10am and 4pm-7pm and at weekends between 10am and 6pm.

The project is due to be completed in late March 2016.

More information on road closures and diversions is available at www.tfl.gov.uk/northsouth
