Haberdashers' Aske's Borough Academy - the new secondary school due to open at the old fire station and training centre in Southwark Bridge Road - has launched a public consultation on its admissions arrangements.

SE1’s new secondary school asks for views on admissions

Plans for the redevelopment of the former Southwark Fire Station complex – led by developers Hadston – were approved by Southwark councillors in January.

The scheme includes around 200 homes as well as the new secondary school and sports facilities.

Before the Department for Education confirms its funding for the secondary school, the prospective provider of the school – the Haberdashers' Aske's Federation – is required to hold a public consultation on its intended admissions arrangements.

Haberdashers' Aske's Borough Academy will be a comprehensive school with 180 places in each year group up to the age of 16.

The first children are due to be admitted to year 7 in September 2019 and the school will grow by one year group each year.

It will have a sixth form with 250 places which will open five years later, in order to admit the first pupils who have completed their GCSEs.

The federation is also seeking views whether the school should open in 2019 in temporary accommodation, or wait until its long-term premises are available.

The consultation period runs until Thursday 19 July; details can be found at www.haaf.org.uk/Consultation-June-2018
