Council seeks votes for Leathermarket Gardens playground makeover

Southwark Council is urging residents to vote in an online poll to help secure a makeover for the children's playground in Leathermarket Gardens.

Leathermarket Gardens is up against 35 other play areas around the country in a campaign run by Flora and Groundwork.

The winning community playground will get a £30,000 makeover, funded by Unilever, makers of Flora. You can vote online at www.flora.com/playground once a day until 30 September.

Leathermarket Gardens was recently awarded a green flag but the council says that improvements to the children's play area are "desperately needed".

"We plan to keep some existing elements of the play area but want to create an interesting and fun play space for local children and parents to enjoy," said a Southwark Council spokeswoman.

Part of the playground is current closed off for building works on an adjacent site.
