Design Museum to close Shad Thames building on 30 June

The Design Museum will shut the doors of its Shad Thames building – a former banana warehouse – it has occupied for 27 years.

The new museum – in the former Commonwealth Institute building on Kensington High Street – will open on 24 November.

In 2013 the existing museum building was sold to Zaha Hadid Architects but few details of future plans for the site have been made public.

• This weekend the Design Museum is hosting a number of free events at Shad Thames linked to its Cycle Revolution exhibition and the Find Your London festival.
