The event was hosted by Sunstar Group which opened the combined convenience store and post office in the MyBaSE1 development last summer.

There was music, facepainting, and diabetic-friendly food at the event which was also attended by children from nearby Friars Primary School.

Cllr Eliza Mann has supported Diabetes UK during her year as Mayor of Southwark both in order to encourage those who have not yet been diagnosed with the condition to come forward for checks and to raise funds for research and treatment.

Diabetes UK is holding a fundraising guided walk around Southwark and Bankside – entitled Bishops and the Bard – on Saturday 30 May.
