Two electric buses will be introduced on bus routes serving Waterloo in summer 2013, Transport for London commissioner Peter Hendy has revealed.

Electric buses coming to Waterloo 'next summer'

"Two Pure electric buses will be introduced to routes 507 and 521 next summer following agreement between TfL and Go-Ahead London to lease them up until the end of each route contract," said Mr Hendy in his regular report to the TfL board.

Routes 507 and 521 are operated by London General from its garages in Cornwall Road and Mandela Way. It is not yet clear where the electric vehicles will be based.

Route 507 links Waterloo with Victoria and route 521 connects Waterloo and London Bridge via the City of London.

• Mayor of London Boris Johnson recently revealed that the introduction of the final three hydrogen-powered vehicles to the RV1 route has been delayed until 2013. The full fleet of eight buses was originally due to enter service by the end of 2011.
